♫ September Playlist ♫

Hello everyone!

September was the month for lots of new music discoveries! Here's what I've been listening to this month . . .

September Playlist 2015 - music recommendations ft. James Bay, The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey and Maven Fiction!

James Bay

This month got off to a great start musically when I discovered James Bay's album! I'd only previously heard his singles Hold Back The River and Let It Go but it was Liam's review that made me want to listen to the full album, Chaos And The Calm. I love the raw honesty in his lyrics and I'd say the mix of indie rock and soul would appeal to just about anyone. Stand out tracks for me are the uplifting Best Fake Smile and When We Were On Fire. I even get a slight country music vibe from If You Ever Want To Be In Love which I'm not adverse to! All in all there isn't a bad song on the album, there are just a few that overshadow others for me.

The Weeknd

As a fan of The Weeknd, I was excitedly anticipating his new release Beauty Behind The Madness! There is a slightly more commercial feel to the songs on this album which will attract a new audience but for longtime fans like myself, it's certainly not too far a deviation from his usual sound, nor is it a disappointment. I can't fault a single song although there are a few that grab my attention a bit more, like The Hills and As You Are. The album also boasts some collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Labrinth and Lana Del Rey which are fantastic additions.

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey also dropped her new album this month which I was really looking forward to. Unfortunately it just hasn't impressed me all that much - I find the first half pretty dull/forgettable which pains me to say as I love Lana! It does seem to get better as the tracks go on though and I really do love Religion and The Blackest Day. My favourite song from Honeymoon is 24 - it kinda reminds me of Carmen from her first album. I'm just hoping this album will grow on me with time which is actually what happened to me with her first album, so fingers crossed!

Maven Fiction

If you saw my August Playlist you'll know that I came across the band Maven Fiction last month. The released their new song Sold just last week and it was one of those lovely occasions when you love a song within the first few seconds of listening to it. I can't wait for an EP or album from these guys!

So that's my September Playlist! Get involved in the comments below and let me know what songs/albums/artists you've been loving lately!

Maeve
