Real Techniques Core Collection brushes! REVIEW

Hey everyone!

I've been gone for a while, I'm sorry :(
I have GCSE mock exams in January that are creeping up on me so I really need to revise, and that's why little blog has been neglected a bit. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you!

Merry Christmas to you all!
I had a super brilliant and lucky Christmas and I hope you all did too!

I've got some blog posts planned that I'll try to get in before my exams but they won't be as regular as they would have been before.

Anywhoo, on with the review!

*Disclaimer*
I did not pay for these as Santa ;) got them for me for Christmas.
Obviously I'm very grateful to Santa for them!

You get four brushes, the detailer brush, the pointed foundation brush, the buffing brush and the contour brush. They all come with a lovely panoramic case that fits them all inside and keeps them safe and secure.

The bristles are made of smooth taklon, which to be honest, I've never heard of, but I can tell you they are incredibly soft and smooth - the smoothest I've ever felt.

Contour Brush:

Real Techniques say: "delicately applies highlighter to contour or create sheer, soft focus finish".

I've decided to use this as my blush brush. It is a little small for blushing but it is tapered and does they job fairly well. I'm not sure if this is my favourite brush but with time I hope to like it more.

Pointed Foundation Brush:

Real Techniques say: "use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage".

This brush is tiny! I'd read reviews saying this brush was small but I didn't believe it would be this small. It does however, apply foundation amazingly, the fact it's pointed means it can really get into the details of your face. I believe that finding the right foundation is only half the battle, you have to find the right brush to apply it - this brush certainly is the best I've tried.

Detailer Brush:

Real Techniques says: "precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas; or, use with lipstick for long-lasting shape and definition".

I decided to go with the second option - lipstick.
I've never used a brush with lipstick before as it seemed like more effort than it was worth. However, it's something I now really recommend if you've never tried it before, it really does help you precisely fill in your lips.
I use it for outlining the lips with lipstick because if you use it to fill in the whole lip it dulls the colour, although maybe you could use it for the whole lip if you wanted a less intense colour perhaps?
You can see I've already used it (with MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick - another Christmas pressie you should expect a review of!).

Buffing Brush:

Real Techniques says: "ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation".

This is the biggest brush of the set and I'll be using it for foundation powder. It does the job very well, it applies powder evenly and easily. What more can I say other than it is probably my second favourite brush, first being the pointed foundation brush.

.............................................................................

Overall, this is a fantastic set of brushes and I'm really pleased with them.
I would give the complete set an 8/10.
These were my first Real Techniques brushes but I hope to get some more in the future because I was so impressed with these.

I recommend these if:
  • Getting your base makeup just right is important to you.
  • You're after super soft brushes.
  • You like small foundation and blush brushes.

Thanks for reading!

Maeve :)
