The Advantages of Advantage Cards (& Apps!)

Hello everyone!
I like to think through this blog I can help you spend your hard earned cash the right way. Whether that be showing you a budget dupe or helping you decide if pricier items are worth it or not, I do like to see that as my purpose. So today I want to share with you the advantages of advantage/loyalty cards & apps and how they can save you £!

I'm going to be focusing on three topics in particular; beauty, coffee & books. These are the loyalty cards I personally like to use. I'm sure there are loads more, and if you know of any by all means share them in the comments!

Let's get started!

The BEAUTY OBSESSED

If you're no stranger to the aisles of Boots or can never be found too far away from your local Superdrug, meet your new best friend. A lot of you might already have a advantage/beauty card, but if you haven't signed up yet you're missing out! It costs nothing to get one from either Boots or Superdrug.

It works like this; you pay for what you want, the cashier scans your card and voila, you get points! Point can be used to treat yourself once you've built them up. You earn 4 points for every £1 you spend in Boots so let's say you spend £30 on beauty bits, you get £1.20 back on your card to spend on whatever you want. One hundred points = £1 to spend in both Boots and Superdrug.

The only differences between the two are that you only earn 1 point for every £1 spent in Superdrug, however you can use your points to pay partially, whereas with Boots you can only use points to make a full purchase. They both have pros and minor cons but are definitely worthwhile, especially when there are offers such as triple points or 10% off deals available only to cardholders. I downloaded the Boots app a while ago which syncs with your Advantage card, allowing you to get personalised offers!

The COFFEE JUNKIE

I have to admit, I'm a big fan of Costa & Caffe Nero so when I found out they also do loyalty cards cards I was over the moon! The Costa card works in much the same way as a Boots card - everytime you spend money instore, you hand over your card and watch the points accumulate as your drink your sweet coffee. A tasty 5 points are earnt from every pound spent and again, once you have enough points you can use them to pay for your drink. Costa also have an app which I've only just found out about so I can't really say much about how I find it, but it does keep track of your points which is exactly what I want it for!

The Caffe Nero card is bloody fabulous. If you're as frequent a vistor as I am, it won't be long until you get your tenth drink free! Everytime you buy a drink, you'll get a stamp on your card and once you've filled it - free tea/coffee time. Tip: bringing a friend along can boost your stamp count, that is as long as they don't have a card of their own!

For . . .
The BOOK WORM

I'm not as regular a customer of Waterstones as I'd like to be but when I did a little Christmas shopping a few months back, I was given this stamped card. For every £10 you spend there, you get a stamp and once you've got 10 stamps on your card you get £10 back in either a gift card or in points on your Waterstones card! I don't have a card but it sounds good - you collect 3 points per pound spent. A little added incentive to read more if like me it's one of your resolutions!

Oh, and there's one last one
for . . .
The O2 CUSTOMERS

If you happen to be with o2 then the chances are you've probably heard of o2 Priority already. You may not have downloaded the app though! It wasn't until around the beginning of December last year that curiosity finally got the better of me and with the gentle coaxing of a free voucher, I signed up.

Basically the app lets you scroll through loads of offers, freebies and they always have a prize draw or two on the go so if your network is o2 I recommend it!

Well there you have it! I hope this post has helped you decide to apply for that Boots card, pick up that Costa card when you're next in the queue or try whichever of the above suits you!

Which loyalty cards do you use?

Thanks for reading,
Maeve
