I must confess. I'm addicted to . . . lip products.

___________________________________

Hello everyone!

Ok so the above statement is a lie - I wouldn't say I'm a lip product addict of any sort but I do own and enjoy a fair amount of lippies if I'm being honest.

You've no doubt seen plenty of this tag on blogs and Youtube recently as it was created by the lovely Amelia Liana and Essiebutton. There's no harm in me adding my two cents to the mix and possibly elongating your wishlist even further now is there?

Hello everyone!

My phone has been looking a little bit naked since I got it last December and there are basically two reasons for this; I've found it quite hard to find cases for the Samsung S3 Mini and of the one's available, I just haven't loved the designs.

Hello everyone!

I'd umming and ahhing about setting up a Facebook page for this little blog now today I just thought, yeah, why not? I think it'll be another great way for interacting with you, my lovely readers, as pretty much everyone and they're gran has a profile now!

I know that different people prefer different methods of social media following so I thought I'd do a little round up post of all the ways you can follow and keep up to date with Thrift O'Clock. Especially as I'll be posting more regularly once my exams are over.

--------------

So here are the various places you can find me:

Hello everyone!

How often do you sit back and look at something you've worked hard for and completed, and just thought for a minute, "I'm proud of that." ? If you're anything like me, it'll be once in a blue moon.

For some reason in today's society we find it increasingly hard to pat ourselves and others on the back for our achievements. This is not to be confused with bragging or vanity or anything like that, what I mean is appreciating dedication and positively commending yourself or another. I think it's healthy to be proud of yourself every now and then.

So I've decided to create a little blog series doing just that.
My aim is to look out for the little things that I'm proud of in myself, friends and fellow bloggers and document them in a post every Sunday.
I'm not the worlds most self-loving person so I can't promise there will always be plenty of proud moments of my own but I'll try.

Also, if you know of someone you're proud of, whether it's just a little thing or something big, tweet me @ThriftOClock and use the hashtag #ProudMoments, telling me about that someone and what they've done to be proud of. I'll pick some and include them in a post. Don't hesitate to nominate yourself either!

--------------------------

1.

This week I've had a couple of proud moments of my own. The first being my AS Level French Speaking exam. I talked about it in my last post but it was basically a nerve-racking presentation and conversation in French. It was at 11:50am and the whole morning before it my tummy was in knots. It did however go quite well and it was the biggest weight off my shoulders to have it done now.

2.

Last week I finished all my Media Studies coursework, and for my evaluation I had to film myself talking. I found out that my dad has a tripod so I set up my filming place and I felt like a Youtuber! I put a lot of effort into filming and editing it and my teacher said it paid off as it was really well done. While filming that, I also filmed a 'Get Ready With Me' video, just to get a flavour of what Youtubing would be like and I really enjoyed it. I was quite surprised at how confident I was talking in front of the camera, basically to myself. Let me know if you'd like me to start making Youtube videos as I'd definitely be up for that!

3.

Also on the topic of Media Studies, I got an essay back that my teacher marked and I did pretty well. It was on synergy and convergence in the music industry, and something that really interests me so I tried really hard, putting lots of my own opinions and experiences into it.

4.

Yesterday I put a post up which featured a collaboration with a brand who'd contacted me to offer me a voucher if I wrote a post with their product in it. Thank you Laura from Firmoo for being my first PR experience. I'm also super happy with how the photos turned out.

5.

I'm never one to take pictures of my art and show them on the internet but this one I'm really proud of. It's for my AS Level Art and I was quite shocked at how little time it took me, only about 2-3 hours. During the Summer I'm going to paint way more, I love using acrylics.

-----------------------

So those are my proud moments for the week. Feeling proud of myself is quite an alien feeling for me, but definitely a good one. I don't see this as boasting as really, these are only tiny things. Please spread the love and nominate yourself or a friend (making sure you get their permission first). If you don't have Twitter or would prefer to send me an email, feel free at maeve.thriftoclock@hotmail.co.uk

Thank you very much for reading,
do go ahead and share some of your proud moments of the week in the comments!

Hello everyone!

As we get into the warmer months, that means two things. The first being exams (for myself and other students alike) but also some lovely sunshine to brighten up the scene. Here in the UK where it's mostly cold and/or rainy, the Sun does occasionally like to pop out around this time of the year!

I had my first AS Level on Thursday which was a French Speaking exam. I was crazily nervous as it involved reciting a memorised 3 minute presentation then answering unseen questions for about 10 minutes afterwards. All with an external examiner. All in French. I'm sure you can understand why it was quite a challenge but luckily the examiner was lovely and I'm quite happy with how it went. It was such a relief to get it over and done with but I'm nowhere near finished exam season yet!

I have to put my Art display up this Wednesday, which will involve some serious cramming from now til then, and on Friday I have my written Media Studies exam on the topics of TV Drama and the Music Industry. Wish me luck! Then I have a big gap of time until my last exam on the 19th June which is my French Listening, Reading and Writing.
After that I'll be free!

---------

After my French Speaking exam, the weather was absolutely glorious and the timing of my parcel from Firmoo arriving couldn't have been better! I got home to find a package from China for me, in which was a beautiful pair of sunnies.

So I thought I'd compile a few things together to show you my Summer Loves and Essentials for the upcoming months!

Lip Balm:

This is definitely a must for Summer. No one wants dry lips and a balm with SPF is even better. I really like the Maybelline Baby Lips for a subtle pop of colour, especially Pink Punch. If you want a more moisturising effect rather than colour, opt for Hydrate - I'm never without it these days.

Nail Polish:

I'm always a fan of colour on my nails and when it comes into the Summer that means no school, and no rules to tell me I can't wear some polish! This Spring/Summer is all about pastels and neons so don't be afraid to go for an all out burst of colour. I love the Miss Sporty polishes as the formula is fantastic, they're so opaque while still being affordable.

Candles:

Now you may be thinking, "Maeve, aren't candles more of a Winter thing?" but for me, candles are an all year round staple. Switch up the scents and go for something fruity. I can't wait to burn this Mango Peach Salsa votive once my exams are over!

Fashion:

Unfortunately, those Christmas jumpers will have to be put to the back of the wardrobe for now as it's officially short sleeve weather! It's also a great time to embrace a good skirt, dress or playsuit but of course, shorts are always a winner for me, especially as it can still be a bit windy here. You can always try the current-popular skort if you want the best of both worlds. (*bursts in full on Miley Cyrus karaoke mode*)

Sunglasses:

Sunnies are an essential for protecting your eyes from the Sun's rays while still being a fab way to jazz up your look. Even better if they're prescription. Firmoo contacted me and asked me to browse their sunglasses range and see if anything caught my attention and this pair did. What's more is they offered me a voucher to help go towards the cost! I fell in love with this pair and the timing couldn't be better as I'd just been to the opticians the day before I got their email so I knew my accurate prescription.

And here they are, the gorgeous pair I bought, the #FS1008 as Firmoo are calling them. They cost $49 (about £30) and shipping to the UK was $18.75 (about £11) so not bad at all if you take into consideration how much a pair might cost if you take a trip to your local opticians. Firmoo deliver all over the world so take a look and see if you could have a pair delivered to you!

You can choose the colour of the lenses and I went for moderate brown which I really love as I don't own any this colour and you can still see out of them very well as they're not pitch black. They have plastic black rims and gold coloured legs so look super classy and stylish with any outfit.

I have a fairly low prescription but I wear ordinary glasses for distance, seeing the board in school, TV, laptop and that sort of thing. Also, when I start driving I would legally have to wear them so I'm really glad I have a pair with corrective and darker lenses.

This is everything you get with your glasses!
This was a surprise for me as I thought it would be just the pair you were getting, but you also get: a hard case, a soft case, a cleaning cloth and a double ended screwdriver for tightening. Now if that's not value for money then I don't know what is.

They took 12 days to be delivered which is quite long but they were coming from China, and it was quite exciting not knowing exactly when they would arrive.

The cases are both gorgeous and handy, but for me the hard case won't close properly and neither will the soft drawstring one. Not sure if that's just mine. I wasn't even expecting to get these items so I'm not that bothered but watch out for that if it matters to you.

If you like this pair or any of the others in their range, you're in luck!
Firmoo were also kind enough to give me another voucher code to give to you guys, my lovely readers!

Have a look here, pick a pair and use the code "7642e14101" at the checkout and you'll get $30 off the price. This offer ends on the 30th May so act fast.
You're welcome!

Do let me know in the comments which pair you'd like to use that voucher on.

Of course another Summer essential is suncream/sunblock - don't forget it! I didn't include it as we should all know to be using it anyway!

Thanks for reading,
Maeve

*The glasses were paid in part with my own money and in part with a voucher Firmoo offered me. All opinions are honest and my own.

Why hello there again!
January's gone, February was over in the blink of an eye and here we are in March! Yet very few posts from me on this blog. What with my comments not working and not being able to upload photos for a while, I sadly had to put it on hold. Schoolwork has had to take the front seat and will be doing so until Summer I'm afraid. I do love blogging and intend to really stick to it after my AS Levels are done.

I've been sick with the flu for a wee while now and what do I do when I'm at home with the internet? Internet shop of course! And I couldn't not show you what I got.

I think New Look has really stepped it's game up and I had a HUGE wishlist which when added to basket totalled to a crazy amount of money. So I wittled it down, and even though it's still quite a big haul, I'm super happy with everything I got. Take a look . . .

What do you think?
I'm LOVING all things pink, pastel and cute right now so there's a slight theme.

-----------------------------------------------

ACID WASH SHORTS
£17.99 £8

Currently, the weather is so temperamental and it's really not acceptable to wear these yet. However my logic is, in buying them I am willing the Summer to get here faster. ...I know.
I've been looking out for a pair like these at a decent price for a while so when they went to the sale I snapped them up and, admittedly, they are very short but thank the inventor of tights! I think they'll be great for festivals and allsorts teamed with pretty much anything. Super soft and they have two back pockets - win.

MON CHERI NYC SWEATSHIRT
 £14.99

Ah, mes chéris, ne vous aiment pas seulement cela? Being a French A Level student and also desperately wanting to go to New York, I couldn't resist this. I love the colour blocking and I think it's gonna be great when I just want a casual outfit but to still look good.

FLORAL TAPESTRY BOOTS
£19.99 £9

Love it or hate it, the tapestry look still isn't going anywhere. I adore the look of these and before I tried them on I wasn't expecting them to be half as comfy as they are. I can't wait to pair these with outfits, in particular the green skinny jeans I also got from New Look.

GREY LACE FRILL SOCKS
£2.99

Who doesn't own a pair of frill socks these days? I've been wanting a pair ever since they came back on trend but most on the high street come in at around £4/5, and while that isn't really expensive, I just can't justify it for a bit of cloth to go between my feet and my shoes! Especially when I could buy a nail polish for the same price. I know they do them in Primark for a bit cheaper but they're never in stock in my local so I gave in to this pair. Not much I can say other than I can't wait to put these bad boys into some outfits.

PINK FLUFFY JUMPER
£22.99 £12

Stop the search.
I've found THE cosiest, comfiest jumper of all time. It's a mix of bobbly/shaggy-ness with a little angora thrown in for good measure, all in the most gorgeous bubblegum pink. I can see this getting a lot of wear time from me in both the warmer and colder months.

FLORAL A LINE MINI SKIRT
£19.99

You know when you order something online and then can't wait for it to arrive so much that you can't stop thinking about it? (please let me know if I'm not the only one that does this?) Well this skirt was probably the thing I was most excited about to get through the post.
Just look at that adorable pattern - yes, thanks to Miranda Priestly we know florals for Spring aren't exactly groundbreaking but, they are adorable!
I really like the look of A line mini skirts but for some reason this just doesn't sit on me the way I'd like. Sadface. I do love it on the hanger so hopefully I can grow to love it on me too.
It's made really well though, and has a concealed zip on the back so it gets the thumbs up from me.

PINK PLIMSOLLS
£14.99 £7

To me, plimsolls are an easy and versatile choice of footwear, you can have them in any colour or pattern and they're comfy. They're my shoe of choice for just walking around town as well as concerts and I'm quite happy to add this pair to my collection. From the picture online I thought they were going to be a bit brighter looking but they're more of a dusty pink, however it's not something I can't live with and I just know these are gonna get plenty of use this Spring and Summer.

POLKA DOT SHORTS
£17.99 £8

Another pair of little denim shorts, this time with the cute addition of polka dots. Let's face it, polka dots are never gonna go awaY. They made appearances in SS14 collections and now they've made their way into my wardrobe. These are also high waisted and I'm excited to wear them with cropped t-shirts and jumpers.

DAISY PINK CLUTCH
£12.99

Behold. This beauty.
It combines my favourite shade of pink and my other favourite, the daisy pattern. I expected it to be smaller, and I actually wanted to use it as a money purse but it's quite large. For that reason I'll be using this for going round town as well as nights out as it can hold quite a lot. If this came in a purse version I'd be on that faster than Ferrari. It does come in a mint blue colour though, and if that goes to the sale I'd love it too. Definitely check it out if mint floats your boat a more so than pink.

GREEN SKINNY JEANS
£19.99 £11

I own two other pair of jeans from New Look so I know I like them and these are no exception to the rule. This pair are suuuper skinny, they really hug you while still being comfy and stretchy enough to let you move. I personally think this colour goes really well with dusty pink, as well as other colours so I have plenty to wear them with! Also, I have part of my St. Patricks Day outfit sorted already!

........................................................

I also ordered this pair of flat black boots

but got another pair of shoes entirely! I received some sky high black heels with gold buckles on them. I can see how they sound similar but they look worlds apart. As much as I love black heels, I don't need another pair and these ones are just too high for me to wear so I'll not be keeping them.

Has this ever happened to you?
What did you do?

..........................................................................

Where would you recommend me to shop from next?

Overall I'm over the moon with my purchases and still have another 50 items in my New Look wishlist but I'll just have to wait until my bank balance recovers haha!

What's your favourite item here?
