I'm a December baby and it's no secret that I love A/W and just about everything that goes with it! So I thought this tag would be not only very appropriate but a bit of fun too.

If you want to do this too then consider yourself tagged!

1) What's your favourite thing about Autumn/Winter?
Where to start! I absolutely love when it starts to get a bit darker and nippier, because that means scarves, gloves, hats and lots of layers. I love when people get into the festive spirit. I LOVE spending time planning and buying gifts for my friends and family (the fact that I now have an earning job makes that aspect even better). The Christmas market. My parents, sister and my birthday are all in A/W, as well as the obvious Christmas so I regard it as a really celebratory time. My parents have always made Christmas magical and one day I hope to create a magic like that with a family of my own. Food. Warm drinks. Cuddles. Candles. Also I think nature is really beautiful around this time of year - just look at these pictures I took the other evening!

2) What's your favourite drink?
I'll have a good old cuppa tea any day! Plenty of milk, no sugar.
I also love hot chocolate but I'm gonna try not to drink any this Winter because of my braces I'm trying to cut down on sugar.

3) What's your favourite scent/candle?
I'm a huge lover of all scents vanilla or cinnamon. As for perfume, I think I'm going to repurchase Beyonce Heat as I've run out and I think it's a great fragrance for this time of year. As for candles, I don't think you can get a scent more Christmassy smelling than Yankee Candle Red Apple Wreath.

4) What's the best lipstick for this time of year?
I don't think you can go wrong with a good red - my red of choice being Rimmel's Lasting Finish by Kate in 'Rossetto 22'.

I would like to get some nice purple/berry shades if you could recommend me? I'm thinking along the lines of MAC Dark Side / Topshop Beguiled.

5) What's your go-to moisturiser?
For my face it's just Simple's Hydrating Moisturiser and for hands, it's E45 Cream. I used to be all about Hand Food, and I'll still use it at times but I'll find myself reaching for E45 more often as I find it's longer lasting and I prefer the feel to it. For body, I love anything Cocoa Butter related and I've been loving Vaseline's lotion for a while now. Recently, if I'm wanting a quick touch up of body moisturiser, I find Soap & Glory's Girligo Spray On Mist is really handy!

6) What are your go-to colours for the eyes?
For daytimes I'll probably opt for neutrals with a hint of gold, and for nights I'll smoke up the neutral and maybe add some purple in there.

7) What's your favourite music to listen to this Autumn/Winter?
All the old classic Christmas tunes and of course, the wonderful Michael Buble's Christmas album.
Non-Christmas-wise, I've been listening to The 1975's album a lot. I am in love with their music.
Others include AlunaGeorge's Body Music and Arctic Monkey's AM. I'm sure I'll be listening to MMLP2 and Tinie Tempah's Demonstration a lot too as they've been released recently.

8) What's your favourite outfit to wear?
As of lately it's been jammies/scarves/hats at home, but once I'm feeling better and getting out I'll be wearing lots of jumpers with shirts underneath, jeans or skirts with wooly tights, boots and thick socks. And of course the odd dress for nights out!

------------------------------------------

Go ahead and do this tag if you love A/W like I do!
What candles do you recommend?
What berry toned lippies are you loving?

Thanks for reading,
Maeve

Yesterday was indeed the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and as a lover of the show I was pretty upset that I couldn't go see it in the cinema (glandular fever is no fun) so to cheer myself up a little I decided to dedicate my nails to the show.

I'm really pleased with how these turned out, especially as they took me a long time!

I really enjoyed the show - infact I think it was the best episode ever.
What did you think?

Here's what I used to create this NOTD:

TOOLS USED:

from left to right:
NYC Expert Last Nail Polish in '105 Lights Camera Glitter' | MUA Nail Constellation in 'Leo' | Rimmel Glam'Eyes Black Eyeliner | NYC Expert Last Nail Polish in '155 Gramercy Glitz' | Technic Yellow Star Nail Decals | OPI Original Nail Envy

(I also used a sponge and a dotting tool which I forgot to photograph)

This tiny pot of super tiny stars is part of a Technic kit which you can get here. I found it in New Look last year for £1.99 and snapped it up!
POLISH USED:
LEFT HAND
from left to right:
Rimmel Lasting Finish in '198 Azure' | MUA in 'All Nude' | Nails Inc in 'Elizabeth Street' | L'Oreal Paris in '211' | GOSH Special Edition in '549 Holographic Hero' | L'Oreal Paris in '619' | Miss Sporty Metal Flip | Rimmel Lasting Finish in '193 Black Cherries' | Max Factor in 'Fantasy Fire' | Rimmel 60 Seconds in '825 Sky High' | Collection Hot Looks in '59 Look At Me!' | Models Own in 'Pink Lady'

----------------------------
On my thumb I've drawn the number 50, then on my index Matt Smith's infamous bow tie and braces. The middle finger shows my attempt at a cyberman, and the ring and pinky are inspired by galaxies. (is there anywhere galaxy nails are more appropriate?) I used nail caviar and star decals for added 3D effect.
----------------------------

RIGHT HAND
from left to right:
Rimmel Lasting Finish in '198 Azure' | MUA in 'All Nude' | L'Oreal Paris in '619' | GOSH Special Edition in '549 Holographic Hero' | Models Own in 'Champagne' | Miss Sporty in '456 Blue Bath' | Collection Hot Looks in '59 Look At Me!' | 17 Fast Finish in 'Fury' | Rimmel Lasting Finish in '193 Black Cherries' | Max Factor in 'Fantasy Fire' | Rimmel 60 Seconds in '825 Sky High' | Models Own in 'Pink Lady'

---------------------------
On my thumb I've attempted to do the DW logo in the shape of a tardis. The index finger is supposed to be two different sonic screwdrivers, on the middle is the scores and I'm really happy with how the dalek turned out on the right hand ring finger. Again on the pinky is the same galaxy pattern on the left hand pinky.
---------------------------

Thanks for reading!
What have you got on your nails right now?

Hey there,
Just a quick post and a bit of an ask for help - basically I can't comment on other people's blogs and I can't reply to comments on my own blog.

Everytime I type out the comment and click on the publish comment button, my comment just disappears and nothing comes up.

I was just wondering if anyone has had similar problems and knows how to fix it. Also if someone can try and comment here just so I know if comments are working on my blog or not.

If you can't comment, please let me know by email
maeve.thriftoclock@hotmail.co.uk

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello!
It's been a little over a month since I last blogged - blame a little holiday and a dose of glandular fever.
I have managed to do a small bit of retail therapy, even though I'm reigning in my purchases until after Christmas. (January sales I can't wait)

Anywhoo, I picked up a few different bits at different times and here's what I got!

----------------------------------------------------

BOOHOO.COM

After having browsed the boohoo website for what seems like forever, I finally made a purchase with a coaxing from a promo code for free delivery. (always softens the blow)

Nicole Short Sleeve Crop Top £4

I've been on the lookout for a black crop top for a good time now, I think this is going to be really versatile and handy for layering. I plan to wear mine under tops and with high waisted trousers/skirts as I'm not too keen on showing an awful lot of my midriff. A little bit on show is quite flattering though so I'm really pleased I got this. I've seen others in different shops for prices like a tenner and I think that really is too much for what you're actually getting.
This is made from a really nice, stretchy fabric, so if these ever go in the sale, I'll be sure to snap up some of the other colours they do!

Daphne Folk Print Kimono £15
Another thing I've really wanted for some time is a kimono. I think it'll be great for nights out when I don't want to carry round a jacket - I can stick this on for a bit of added warmth but stuff it in my bag when I want to take it off! Boohoo also do this in red, but I wanted something that would go with a lot of outfits and I'm really happy with this.
At £15, it's a little more than I'm used to spending on one item but I know I'll get a lot of wear out of this.
Having said that, it makes me want to get more kimonos - so easy to style and again, a really versatile piece!
I got it in size Small, and I'd say if you're anything from a UK size 6-10, Small would fit you fine.

Alisa Tartan Flower Print Skater Skirt £8
It'll come as no surprise to anyone I'm sure that tartan has been everywhere this Autumn. It's a bold trend but there are some subtle ways to rock it, including this lovely skirt. The second I saw it on the website I fell in love, it's tartan hidden underneath a bed of flowers.
I'm quite awkward with skirt sizing, I have a really small waist which makes it hard to know which size to get in order for it to sit in the right place. I went for a UK size 6 and I'm glad I did - the waistband sits just on my waist and it's not too short a length either which is good.
I really recommend this if you're looking for a way to get the tartan trend into your wardrobe without been too out there - and £8 is a very reasonable price to do it at too!

look at that tartan-y floral loveliness!
Lottie Velvet Cross Strap Platform Heels £25
I have a pair of black ankle heels which have very thin stiletto heels, which I wore on a night out recently, and although I had no falling overs, I think I'd feel a bit more comfortable with a bit more of a wedge heel. Also, it's nice to have another black heel to switch between, so there began my lookout for a black wedge pair of heels.
I've always thought boohoo had a pretty range of shoes and while I was test-driving their clothing department, I thought I might as well try out their shoe section too.
It has to be said, my shoe sizing is awkward too. I'm a UK size 3 or 4, it all depends on the shoe. I went for 4 with these and they're a bit big. Not drastically though, I can walk in them fine, I think 3 would've been a safer option though. I know for boohoo shoes in the future now though!
Size problems aside, they're a really nice shoe and I can't wait to wear them out!

CHARITY SHOPS

As I mentioned above, I had a little holiday over Halloween and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to check out the charity shops in a different country!

New Look Purple Paisley Top £3.25
I saw this on the rail and knew it had to be mine. It's so interesting and I can just imagine that with a pair of jeans, simple necklace, leather jacket and pair of boots, that would be magic in an outfit.

'Snap' White Oversized Jumper £3.75
I've never heard of the brand 'Snap' but that didn't phase me - for just under £4, this is an amazing jumper. The knitwork is actually beautiful and this is such a great bargain. (yes I do appreciate good knitwork haha)
I'll definitely be kept warm with this!

ever heard of this brand before?

'Design Essentials' Checked Shirt £3.75
Another brand I've never heard of, but another item on my wishlist ticked off. This is actually UK Size 18 so on me, it's oversized and I LOVE it. It's made of a quite thick material so it's really cosy. This might just be part of a concert outfit if I'm lucky. (anyone else love The 1975? they've been playing non-stop for me and they're touring again soon)

FASHION UNION

Indigo Mottled High Rise Skinny Jeans £20 £11
These actually arrived in the post on the morning we left for our holiday so I wore them on the plane! These are without a doubt the comfiest trousers I've ever worn, and they fit so nicely too. I'd wanted a pair like these for some time so when I came across them on the website Fashion Union I was delighted. They were £20 but I simply googled 'fashion union promo codes' and got £9 worth of offers off! A little 20% off here and a 10% off there never hurt. Honestly, if you're ever buying online, check and see if there are any valid promo codes at the time and you could save a bundle!

ACCESSORIZE

Mini Studded Diagonal Zip Crossbody Bag £15 £12.50
For nights out, you need somewhere to carry your essentials - phone, ID, lipstick, and what have you. You want it to hold all you need, without being too big and bulky.
Despite being a lover of handbags, I didn't actually own a decent clutch bag until I was browsing the Accessorize shop in the airport.
Do you ever get when something catches your eye in a shop, and then it almost glows like it's meant to be for you? Well that's what happened here. This little clutch is BEAUTIFUL and ideal for going out. The fold over/zip detail means your bits and pieces are secure, and you can attach or detach the strap depending on whether you want a clutch or crossbody bag. Plus, it's literally just the right size.
Could it get any better? Well actually, it did. Being in the airport, I got a discount for it being 'tax free' which meant this beauty was £15 down to £12.50. Wow.
Even at £15, that's a decent price and I think if you're looking for a bag for parties and otherwise at Christmas and beyond, look no further.

Have you found any bargains lately?
Which online shops are your favourites?

I've definitely ticked a fair few things off my wishlist with this collective haul, and I'll definitely be ordering from Boohoo and Fashion Union again in the future, but after my friends and families Christmas gifts are bought.
Speaking of which, WHO'S EXCITED?

Hello there, nice to see you again!

I know it's been a little over a month since I last blogged but September was a hectic month. (I blame sixth form+life)
October is already rushing in and at the end of the month I'll be going on holiday so before you know it it'll be November! And you know what that means . . . (almost Christmas time!:)

Anyway, I lost some blogging motivation but I'm hoping to create a blogging schedule around my other priorities so that I can regularly post and talk to you guys.

I'm currently sat at my desk with a cuppa tea and slice of cherry cake, all ready to go ahead with the Liebster Award tag. Get yourself a snack too if you want to read some of my answers!

----------------------

I was tagged by the lovely Jodie from Teacups and Bluebells, her blog is wonderful so I really recommend you go have a peek! Thank you very much Jodie :)

The Rules:

1) Link the blogger that nominated you.
2) Answer the questions your nominator asked.
3) Nominate 10 bloggers who have less than 200 followers.
4) Think of ten interesting questions for your nominees to answer.

(I've been tagged in the Liebster tag before, and I swear the rules change everytime? I'm sure the last time I did it there were 11 questions and you had to have less than 100? anyway.)

My Answers:

1) If you could travel in time, where would you go?

I'd definitely go to the past, maybe the 20's or the 60's or the 80's - the music, fashion and makeup were great in those decades. I've always wanted to be a flapper girl or go to a The Beatles or Michael Jackson concert.

2) What makeup item could you not live without?

I'd like to think I could live without makeup, but thinking superficially, I'd say mascara mascara mascara.
Namely, Benefit's They're Real.
My holy grail mascara, although I have been living without it for a while now - I'm currently using L'Oreal's Volume Million Lashes which is a great alternative for around half the price.

3) If you could only watch one TV show for the rest of your life, what would it be?

BBC's SHERLOCK!
It's my favourite ever.
If it was all I could watch, I'd make sure Moffat/Gatiss made way more episodes. Failing that, I think I could watch the 6 we have now over and over again.

4) What's your favourite clothes shop?

Any charity shop. (surprise surprise)

5) The best holiday you've ever been on?

I've never been out of the UK, but a couple of years ago I went to a lovely beach town in my country for a week with my family and it was so relaxing. This year I spent a couple of days away with my friends for a wedding and it was so much fun.
Either of those!

6) What would your idea of a perfect day be?

Good question! Difficult.
I think I'd pack a lot of food, friends, family, maybe a day trip someplace, shopping, a spa treatment and a concert all into one day and that would be bliss.
Anyone know where that would be possible?

7) What country have you never been to, but really want to visit?

America.

8) Favourite artist/band?

I have a really random varied music taste so it's impossible to say who's my favourite.
Imagine a mash up of Michael Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Two Door Cinema Club, Arctic Monkeys, Ed Sheeran, Pierce The Veil, The 1975, Florence & The Machine, Lana Del Rey, The Midnight Beast . . . and that might be somewhere close.

9) If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be and why?

Hmm, maybe Nicki Minaj - she has so many amazing things going on in her life and I'd be interesting to see it from her point of view for a day.
Otherwise, maybe a big time blogger because they're sort of famous but not gossiped-about-and-slated-in-magazines famous, they get to keep more privacy than celebrities and I'd still be living the life! How cool would it be to go to events and shop and write, as well as so much more, for a living?

10) What 3 words best describe you?

I could say so many negative ones, but trying to be positive I'll wrack my brains and say,
Caring, Ambitious and Imaginative.

My Nominations:

1) Caroline from Blue Eyed Beauty
2) Gemma from Touch Of Belle
3) Jane from Dorky, Fizzy and Quirky Stuff
4) Abigail from Twynkle Loves
5) Beth from Perpetual Style
6) Rachel from Oh Hey There Rachel!
7) Jayly from Brunette Happiness
8) Gracie from Little Owl Beauty
9) Emma from Emmaloujohansson
10) Shan-Rayann from Beauty by Shan Rayan

Your questions:

1) Which beauty product would you buy if money wasn't a problem?
2) What's something you're proud of?
3) What are your Autumn/Winter fashion must haves?
4) Favourite song right now?
5) You slept in and you only have 5 minutes to do your makeup - what do you put on?
6) What's your goal for this week?
7) What's the scariest thing you've ever done/would like to do?
8) Best bargain you've found recently?
9) Do you prefer books or TV?
10)  Would you rather visit New York, Paris or London?

Phew, that was quite a task but I really enjoyed it and Jodie's questions were really good - thanks again!

Hello lovelies!

(this is quite a long post so if you like noseying into other people's lives, go put the kettle on and sit down with a cuppa tea! I've also given each section a title so you can read only the bits that interest you if you want.)

>----> >----->   <-----< <----<

It's that time of the year again - September! Autumn is starting and so is a new academic year.
This was my first week of sixth form and so far I absolutely love it!

I got my GCSE results in August and I'm proud to say I got 5 A's, 3 B's and a C - I hope any of you with results got what you wanted and are motivated to keep on working!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<

SUBJECTS:
For A Levels, I'm studying Art, French and Media Studies.

Art has always been my favourite subject and I know that I want my future career to involve art. Somehow, thankfully, I got an A in it, despite lacking inspiration at GCSE because I thought of it as a task. However, over the Summer I've regained my love and passion for art again and I'm determined to really work hard and enjoy it at A Level! My teacher this year is the same as last year so we get on well - always a plus! This week in Art classes, our task has been to draw any 4 objects of our choice, not linked to a theme, just any 4 that we might like to draw. We also have to use different mediums such as pencil, pen and paint, as well as using different textures by sticking down different papers to the page and drawing over them. I've really enjoyed doing this - I drew a water tap, a goat's skull, a crab shell and a starfish. I've had lots of time to complete the task as I have plenty of free periods which I can go up to art and work. The task is due for this Monday but I finished it all in class this week so yay - no art homework this weekend!

Over the GCSE course, I began to love French. I am so pleased I got an A in it because I did work hard for it. I never expected to love it, but when the end of 5th year was coming to an end, I realised that I just didn't want to stop learning it! Languages are really useful and respected qualifications nowadays and I know I want to visit France at some point, especially if I become a fashion designer. My French teacher this year is new to the school, and I can honestly say she is such a lovely person who really seems to want the best for us! She speaks to us in French for most of the lessons which was quite intimidating at first but now I appreciate it because it makes you concentrate and learn, trying to understand her sentences. She is also really personal, she asks us what we did in Summer/last night, what we're going to do at the weekend and if we have jobs and we have to answer in French. She also tells us stories about herself in French which are super interesting. We've really hit the ground running with the course, things are moving fast already! French is my only subject which involves writing/revising everyday so I'll have a lot of time to put effort into it and do the best I can.

Media Studies is a brand new subject for me. My school doesn't offer it at GCSE, only at A Level, but it really intrigued me and I'm interested in the media, news, technology, music etc. so I decided to take it on! I was super excited to begin it and this first week hasn't disappointed. It's recommended to have good results and an interest in English to do Media Studies - a tick in the box there! My teacher is really funny and easy to get on with - I've even had a bit of a laugh with him. In class, we get to use Macbook Pro's which take a good bit of getting used to! This week we've created a blog and a Twitter account for Media Studies - something you'd never get the opportunity to do in other classes! The Twitter account is to find interesting articles and tweet our teacher homework, how cool is that?! I found the task of making a blog on Blogger not too difficult at all as I'd already done it before . . . hehe:) The blog is to upload homework onto. We had a couple of assignments this week - 1) to find definitions for different camera shots/angles, videos which include them, give a comment on them and upload that in a blog post + 2) find an interesting article and tweet it to my teacher. Later on in the year, we'll get to work with record labels and make music videos and short intros to films as well as other things. I can't wait!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Overall, I love all my subjects, classes and teachers. A lot of my friends have had the opposite reaction to the week - they've wanted to change subjects because they didn't like them but thankfully I haven't had any of that stress. I'm so glad not to be doing any Science anymore! I got a very respectable BB at GCSE Double Award Science and I'm happy to leave it at that.

'FREE' CLASSES:
As I mentioned, I have plenty of 'free' periods in the week. I use the term 'free' loosely because they're supposed to be called private study classes but they're more commonly known as frees. In frees, you're supposed to go into the sixth form study to catch up on homework, revise or read in silence (quite annoying but understandable), at a single desk on your own. My frees have been pretty boring this week as the workload hasn't been a lot this week, but I know they're gonna come in very useful later in the year. If you don't want to go to the study, you can go to the library, fitness suite or to art. I'll mainly be going to art in my frees to get as much work done as possible. Also, you don't have to be completely silent in art which is good!

EXTRA CLASSES:
We also have 3 classes a week that aren't exam based, just extras to help us and give us a bit of a break. They are: Careers, IT and Social Religion. I have to sort out work experience soon, as I learned in Careers class this week. Fashion designer is my #1 career choice but a random idea came into my head just this week. . . I might want to be an art teacher? In IT, we'll be learning about programming, and Religion is basically just a class to chat about things and get to know other people. Fun!

CHANGES:
In sixth year, there is such a change in attitude from teachers and younger students towards us. We're seen as more mature and be have to set an example. The teachers seem to treat us more as equals which is really nice. We also seem to have a lot more freedom, due to frees and the fact we are doing less subjects.

LUNCHTIME FREEDOM:
In my school, exclusive to sixth years only, you're allowed to leave school at lunchtime to either go home or to any of the shops near the school. I don't live near to my school so it wouldn't be practical to go home due to limited time, so I went to the Tesco's 5 minutes away from school at lunch on Monday. I got a sandwich, drink and chocolate bar which was all good, except I had to eat it walking on the way back to school - not so good as it was windy and does anyone like walking+eating at the same time?! So for the rest of the week, I ate packed lunch in the study - much safer in terms of hair-in-mouth-while-eating related problems.
I might venture out of school sometime next week though as there's a Chinese beside the Tesco - chicken chow mein here I come.

SCHOOLBAG:
For my schoolbag this week I've been using the coloured checkered backpack seen in this post. It's a really cute bag and fits everything I need - which isn't too much to be honest! If you'd like to see a What's In My Schoolbag post, just comment below!

MAKEUP:
If you'd like, I can also do a How Much Is My Face Worth: Sixth Form edition post too - just say the word. :)

PERFUME:
The scent I've been wearing this week is Nicki Minaj Pink Friday. It's a lovely, sweet scent that isn't overpowering at all. I just spray it on in the morning and carry a Natural Collection Vanilla body spray in my schoolbag to top up the scent throughout the day if needed. I don't like to carry around a perfume bottle in my bag in case of breakage/spillage so a not so expensive plastic bottle of body spray is great to just throw in and spray on the go. This particular vanilla scent is really good for layering with PF too.

my Pink Friday perfume with the poster in my room.
I ripped this poster out of a magazine a while ago and have it stuck to my wall. I also cut out a quote from an interview Nicki spoke in another magazine. It says: "Each detail needs to wow me or it's not an option."
I think that's a really good quote if you're lacking in motivation. Instead of worrying about a whole task, focus on every little detail and getting those details just right, and you will achieve something to be proud of.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<

WORK:
During the Summer, I worked weekdays but now I'm back to school I can't do that. I'll be working most weekends and possibly some weeknights. I'm going to be busy!
I'm over the moon that they want me to come back now that Summer's over - one of my managers said I was really valuable and they appreciated that especially when I had to have some time off for my operation. Happy days!
I'll also be glad of the money because this year might just be expensive: school supplies, going out, driving lessons and all sorts. That on top of all the new beauty products that will be released as well as the temptation of online shopping!

SEASON CHANGE:
It really isn't Summer anymore - it's been quite warm most of the week but yesterday it rained and today it's freeeezing cold. I've got a small case of the sniffles, but nothing numerous cups of tea, bowls of soup and wooly jumpers can't cure! Autumn/Winter are my favourite months of the year so I'm glad the seasons are changing ^.^

>----> >---->  <----< <-----<

So that was just a little quite a long update into my life so if you read it all, have a pat on the back from me!

Have you been back at school/uni/work this week?
What subjects are you studying?
Did you have a pleasant or a stressful week?
Excited for the year ahead?
Do you like Autumn/Winter or are you sad to see Summer go?

or have you any questions for me?

I'm happy to answer anything, that's what the comments section is for so don't be shy! :)
