Wardrobe declutter challenge!

Today, Saturday, would be my usual day to go out thrifting but, as I went last Monday instead, I didn't make the journey today.

On my Monday thrift-trip, I was lucky to find two things, but I'm going to save the details for a later post. I was so pleased to pick up a lovely pair of shorts and a cute top - both for under £5 - and they go really well together so outfit sorted!

..................................................................................................................................................

Anyway, what I wanted to say is that you know those clothes you never wear anymore? Those shoes that you wore only a few times? Those books you've read countless times? Those clothes your children have grown out of? Thrift stores want them. They need them - without them they can't give charities what they need. No one wants to see empty racks at the thrift store!

So what I'm suggesting is that maybe one day soon, we could take the opportunity to clear out our wardrobes of those items we simply don't want anymore.

..................................................................................................................................................

This week I accepted that challenge. Here's what I did:

  • Take everything out of the warbrobe. Absolutely everything so the wardrobe is empty!

  • Sort all the items into categories. (shorts, skirts, tops, trousers, jackets etc.) This will make it much easier to decide what you really don't need to keep anymore. Lay everything out so you can see it all clearly.

  • Take a good look at the clothes in front of you. What doesn't fit you anymore? Take out that top you bought on a whim but never wore. That skirt that doesn't go with anything? It's not staying in your wardrobe much longer.

  • Now you have two piles; keep and donate. With all the items in your donate pile, wash them, fold them, put them in a bag and send them off to a charity shop that needs them!

  • With the keep pile, organise them back into your wardrobe. Wardrobe decluttered!

Now I've done this, I've down-scaled my wardrobe to 6 pairs of shorts, 2 skirts, 10 tops, 4 pairs of trousers, 2 dresses, 2 hoodies and 5 jackets! I found that so much of what I had didn't fit me. My wardrobe is looking a lot less cluttered and quite a bit more spacious, ready to welcome new clothes.

I asked my sister to do the same and between us we filled two of these bags which are ready to be donated.

So are you going to have a go tidying out your wardrobe or closet?
Let me know how it goes!
