Well, now that February is done & dusted it's time for me to share my monthly favourites with you!

MAC Twig lipstick, Soap & Glory Sugar Crush, Wet 'n' Wild mascara flatlay

BEAUTY

Starting off with a shower favourite, if you read my recent Soap & Glory review then it'll come as no surprise to you that the Sugar Crush body wash made it into this post! If it's possible to be head over heels in love with a scent then I certainly am - so much so that I went out and bought the body lotion, the spray & the hand cream in the scent the weekend after I wrote that review. Smelling like sweet, lime goodness 24/7 is now an achievable goal thanks to Soap & Glory!

Moving onto makeup, I have two products I want to talk about; a lipstick & a mascara. The lipstick in question is 'Twig' from MAC which I won in a blog giveaway back in January and I can say without a doubt it's my new favourite lipstick. It's one of those gorgeous deep pinky brown shades - definitely my kind of nude. The satin finish means it's got serious lasting power whilst still being forgiving on the lips, aka a match made in heaven. I can't gush about it enough!

The mascara is one I picked up on a whim one day when I was in the pharmacy. I'd never heard anyone talk about the Wet 'n' Wild Mega Protein mascara before, nor am I the biggest fan of bristle wands but something drew me to it. Possibly the bright green tube, possibly the fact that it was only £2 something! Each time I use it I'm more and more impressed at how it manages to coat every lash without going clumpy, almost like you've just had your lashes tinted which is ideal for me. My only complaint is that it tends to go on your eyelid when you're applying it but that could just be me being more used to plastic wands. It's something I'm happy to put up with though as the effect & the super low price make it worthwhile.

ETC.

As for more miscellaneous favourites, I have two Youtube channels I've been loving and two Things I Did to mention. Not sure how else to categorise the latter!

The first Youtuber is Sophie Eggleton who I discovered through a collab she did with Zoe London. She shares a variety of vlogs, interviews, honest & interesting chats as well as fashion & beauty videos, all delivered with a good sense of humour! Funny & down to earth are two qualities that are used to describe people very often but believe me when I say she really is both of those things. I find her particularly relatable because we both have CFS and it's always helpful & comforting to be able to get the viewpoint from someone who really understands.

Bess Oates is someone I also feel I share a lot of similarities with. This month she created a new channel in a bid to start afresh and allow herself to make videos about anything she wanted to without any pressure. I'm so glad she did because you can tell she feels happier & more free to talk about topics like feminism, veganism and plenty of other good things. She uploaded a video everyday in February and I watched & enjoyed every one each day! Both Sophie & Bess have served as inspiration for the type of content I want to create on Youtube when I get back into it so if either of them read this, thank you!

Lastly, the two fun things that happened in February were recording a podcast with Catherine & meeting up with my blogger pen pal Megan! Both events were so much fun & definite highlights of the month for me so I couldn't not mention them.

So those were my February Favourites! Get involved in the comments below and let me know if you've tried any of the things I talked about or know of any of the channels I included!

Well lads, it's that part of the week when we take a little time to sit back and reflect on the past week!

Countryside
This week . . .

. . . wasn't filled with happiness and light I'll be honest with you! I woke up on Monday not feeling the best; a mixture of the cold, my usual chronic fatigue & the fact I'd somehow managed to scratch the inside of my eyelid meant I wasn't on top of the world. And I had a very watery and sore right eye. At this stage I'm pretty used to not being well so I tend to just take it in my stride but this time I was a bit annoyed that I had to miss my yoga class that night because of it! Thankfully I'm feeling a bit better now and all being well I'll be doing my hours worth at the gym tomorrow.

Countryside
Also this week we lost a very close family friend. She was someone I'd known all my life and who cared for so many people so her passing was a real blow to all of us. I wasn't sure whether I should include this here or not but I figured that as it affected my week and these Weekly Reflects are a log of what happened & how I felt, it would be wrong to gloss over it, y'know? As I grow up I'm learning that death is a part of life and it's not something we can avoid!

Blue sky & trees

Blue sky & nature
On a happier note we were treated to some glorious weather this week and I got out for two walks in the countryside - Tuesday & yesterday! That's where these photos are from and I count myself so lucky that I can get out and witness such beauty in nature. Spring is definitely on it's way and let's hope it brings plenty of happiness with it!

Blue sky and green fields

So there you have it, another week gone by! It's hard to believe this time next week we'll be in March already. Go ahead and get involved in the comments below and let me know what you got up to this week! Anything nice?

As we're approaching the end of February, it's time for me to share with you what I've been listening to throughout this month!

February Playlist

Nina Nesbitt

The month kicked off with the release of Nina Nesbitt's Modern Love EP, from which my favourite song is definitely Chewing Gum. I really like how she's formed into a seemingly gutsier, more powerful lyricist since her first album and that goes hand in hand with the actual melody which is insanely catchy too. Nina actually uploaded a video on her channel sharing how she wrote the song and how it came to be from a mere idea which is a pretty interesting watch. It's refreshing to see an artist be so frank about the writing process & I kinda wish more would do the same! Overall the EP is a nice little taste of what's next to come from Nina.

Rihanna

Also in February I was listening to Rihanna's new album, ANTI. As a longtime fan of hers I always look forward to her releases however this album as a whole sadly didn't meet my expectations. Don't get me wrong there are some great songs on there like Desperado and Love On The Brain, both of which I really do like a lot, it's just those are the only ones I enjoy. Work too, her current single which has been all over the radio lately. I know it's had mixed reviews from people but I personally love it! I think (and hope) the other tracks on ANTI might just take it's time to grow on me, yknow?

FKA Twigs

Then by chance I stumbled across FKA Twigs' new song, Good To Love on Spotify towards the end of the month. It came as a lovely surprise as I didn't know to expect anything new from her and I think it could possibly be the song of hers I like most! I think she's presenting an impressive new quality to her voice as well as a more optimistic outlook in the lyrics which I love. Fingers are crossed for more soon!

...

I also want to leave a little note on something in music which really affected me & got me thinking this month. Kanye West (who you might know is one of my absolute favourites) dropped his long anticipated new album, The Life Of Pablo a few weeks ago. We'd been eagerly waiting for a new list of songs to get to know and on the 14th February he released them. Except, not really. He made the decision to make the album exclusive to Tidal subscribers.

In my current situation I can't afford to subscribe to Tidal every month. I'll unashamedly say that that's the truth & the reality for me as I'm sure it is too for plenty of others. I'd be happy to buy the physical copy of the album once I know if I like it, that's what I always do with music; if I absolutely love an album after streaming it I'll buy the CD as a way to support the artist I'm loyal to. However Kanye's not making this available to buy on disc.

The numerous album name changes didn't annoy me, neither did his frequent Twitter speeches but this did. Seeing as he's spoken passionately in the past about how problematic exclusivity is, I can't help but feel disappointed, confused and quite honestly a bit upset that The Life Of Pablo isn't available for everyone to listen to. But as always, Kanye is an open & unfinished book so who knows what could happen next! There's even word of another album this year which I truly hope anyone will be able to access!

So there you have it, my monthly music wrap up. I'd love for you to get involved in the comments below and let me know if you have any recommendations as to be honest with you I'm in desperate need of some really good new music to get into! Please also share your thoughts on the Kanye situation if you'd like to, I would love to chat about it with someone.

What have you been listening to?

It's time to take a minute to reflect on the past week!

Reflection landscape

This week . . .

. . . began by recording a podcast with Catherine! I'd never done one before but it turned out to be so much fun and I'm so happy we did it. We also intend on doing another one in the near future so keep an eye out for that. If you have any topics you think we should discuss feel free to let us know, that would be pretty cool!

Ginger cat
Then on Monday night I went to the first yoga class in the new gym my mum and I signed up for. I hadn't done yoga for about a month beforehand so it feels great to be getting back into it and I'm really looking forward to having an hour every week dedicated to relaxation mixed with gentle exercise! It left me fairly sore afterwards but I definitely think it was worth it.

Daffodils
Also this week I swear we went through all four seasons of weather? We woke up to a decent amount of snow one day here and the next it was so sunny I was (just about) able to get away with wearing a t-shirt. It really makes me wonder what our Summer will be like. All I know is that I'm super excited for warmer weather and brighter days. Fingers crossed we'll get our fair share!

Snow
While we're on the topic of excitement, I met up with my blogger friend & pen pal Megan yesterday! She was in Belfast for the weekend so we took the opportunity to get together for a chat in Caffe Nero then have a wee look round Boots which was great fun. I really recommend checking out her blog as she is beyond lovely and we have lots in common with each other too!

M&S food

And that brings us up to today. I spent this afternoon having lunch with my parents in M&S (their pesto, mozzarella & tomato grilled sandwich is amazing) then just chilling at home which is what Sundays were made for!

Well now you're all caught up on my week, I'd love for you to get involved in the comments below and tell me about yours!

Soap & Glory. Arguably one of the most well loved bath and body brands, it's one I've personally remained loyal to for years. Today I'm going to be reviewing their six different body washes!

Soap & Glory body washes review
I was thrilled to receive these in a Christmas gift set from my brother. I'd tried three of their body washes before but Sugar Crush, Orangeasm and Rich & Foamous were new scents to me. They came inside crackers with party hats which was pretty cute and I think these minis are ideal for figuring out which ones you like without having to commit to a full sized bottle. They're also very handy for travelling too!

As body washes they don't make any miraculous claims but it's worth noting they don't dry out your skin at all, especially if like me you're prone to dry skin anyway! What makes them unique is their bright and beautiful packaging as well as the variety of scents. Here's what I think of all six:

Soap & Glory body washes review
Orangeasm

Being honest this one is my least favourite. That's not to say it's unpleasant, I just prefer orange scents which are juicier whereas this smells more like the peel to me. As it's one of a kind I'd say it's likely to be an opinion divider but if you like citrus scents which aren't real sweety sweet, this could be what you're looking for!

Foam Call

I finished a full sized bottle of this not too long ago so it's nice to have it back in my life again! It's quite fruity & sweet and apparently this has the same scent as the S&G Fruitigo fragrance which is handy to know - you could layer them up for a longer lasting effect!

Sugar Crush

Holy moly. This is without a doubt my new favourite Soap & Glory scent. I don't know why I hadn't tried it sooner but now I have I want to try all of it's accompanying products; the scrub, the lotion, the handcream, them all! The main scent components are lime & kiwi but I feel like there might be a hint of banana in there which mellows it down deliciously. It also reminds me of some kind of sweet but I can't think what!

Soap & Glory body washes review
Clean On Me

Y'know Soap & Glory's signature scent? Well this is it in shower gel form! If you're not familiar it's a lovely mix of floral & fruitiness which I think would appeal to most people. As the name suggests, you come out of the shower smelling super fresh & clean!

Rich & Foamous

Almonds, oats & brown sugar are all part of this yummy aroma which I now know pairs with The Breakfast Scrub exfoliator, the scent I considered my favourite before trying Sugar Crush. I would definitely buy the full size of this!

Clean, Girls

And lastly, this one is quite similar to Clean On Me in that it's both fruity & floral but there's just something that little bit different. It's hard to describe but it's almost like they're sister scents!

Soap & Glory body washes review

You can buy these minis for £2.50 each or in 500ml bottles for £6.50 which are well worth it in my opinion because a little goes a long way. Boots often do 3 for 2 offers which are good to make the most of if you want to stock up!

So there you have it, my thoughts on these body washes! As a result of writing this I now really feel like trying some more from the brand so if you have any recommendations, please get involved in the comments below!

What did you get up to on Valentine's Day? Myself and my good friend Catherine decided to film a podcast together and I thought I'd share it with you!

Podcast

Somehow we managed to record almost an hour's worth of chatting - I don't think either of us intended for it to be that long but Catherine and I get along really well so when we get talking there's no stopping us! In the podcast we cover a wide variety of topics such as Valentine's Day, blogging, music, fate, the weather & many other things so if you fancy having a listen, you're very welcome to press play and join the conversation!

I really enjoyed trying something new and want to thank Catherine for inviting me to be a part of her podcast. Get involved in the comments below if you have any opinions on anything we mentioned, I'd love to hear them!

It's Sunday so as per usual, it's time to reflect on the past week!

Daffodil

This week . . .

. . . began with the welcoming in of a brand new month! I spent Monday morning - which I remember to be beautifully sunshiney - spring tidying my bedroom. I love rearranging things in it every now and then and I'm so happy with the current layout. Although saying that, it's gradually starting to get messy again as I'm horrendous at maintaining a tidy room. I've come to realise that while I do like my stuff to have order & place, I am a messy person. I'm not sure I could ever do the whole minimalist thing either!

Bedroom shelves

On Tuesday I posted my first ever book review. I thoroughly enjoyed writing it but I never expected the author Carole Matthews to actually be one of the first to read it & she even tweeted me! That amused both me and my mum, who also read it and I was thrilled to bits when she said she enjoyed the review too. I have the intention to buy a bunch of books from a charity shop and work my way through reading & reviewing them. If you have any recommendations please send them my way!

Wall art
Also this week I got some lovely mail in the form of a pen pal letter from Shona. She is such a wee gem & we're very similar in many ways, one way being we both share a love for pretty stationery! How cute is that envelope? I'm can't wait to get a few minutes of peace & quiet to sit down and pen a reply!

Envelope
One day in the week, as it approached lunch time I started to get hungry. Standard. However that hunger somehow lead me to get the phrase "thinking 'bout lunch" stuck in my head, to the tune of the first line "thinking out loud" in each verse in the song Truffle Butter by Nicki Minaj, Drake & Lil Wayne. That in turn lead me to rewrite the lyrics of all three verses and make them all about food. It was a fun little (unexpected) challenge and I'm half tempted to record it, maybe even make a parody video of sorts! Maybe haha.

Sylvanian Families
And that brings us up to yesterday! I was awake super early and so was able to go with my mum, granny & auntie to do the weekly shop which I enjoyed. As well as the usual groceries I picked up a couple of magazines to flick through, partially influenced by the fact Kim KW is looking so good on the front of Cosmo, partially influenced by the fact you can get a free Ciaté nail polish with InStyle this month. There's a couple of different shades to choose from but I went for Iced Frappe, a gorgeous mauve colour I can't wait to get on my nails!

Once we'd finished in Tesco we all went to a close by cafe to have some tea & scones; my treat. Then we nipped into the pharmacy to get a few things and of course I had to have a wee browse of the Wet 'n' Wild stand in there! I ended up coming away with a new mascara and an eyeshadow palette, which I've no doubt I'll share my thoughts on with you sooner or later. I'm excited to try my first products from the brand!

Instagram. I love it. For me it's an infinite stream of inspiration I can scroll through any time of day. I follow some really cool creative people on there and today I want to take the opportunity to share some of my favourites whose photos, whenever I see them always ignite my imagination!

Cool creatives, artists & illustrators on Instagram

@dallasclayton

I've been following Dallas for quite a while now - he's an author & an illustrator and his creations vary from intricate, busy patterns to simplistic outlines accompanied by annotations. I seem to really connect with them as they're relatable as well as thought-provoking - sometimes even motivational. I really want to get myself a mug or t-shirt or something from his shop so that I can have a piece of that creativity in physical form. I'm even thinking of getting his signature 'reaching arms' tattooed on me. Just a thought at this point in time!

@marcmartinillo

Every single time I scroll through my Instagram and see a photo of Marc's illustrations I want to get my watercolours out and paint. I don't think I've ever been artistically inspired in such a strong way by anything else. Seriously, what he does with watercolour is on another level! He mainly paints people, animals, vehicles & buildings but still manages to maintain a constant flow of something unique every time. He has such an incredible talent!

@jean_jullien

I've only recently started following Jean's account but from the very first glance at his art, I knew it was my cup of tea. The way he incorporates illustrations alongside everyday objects takes his creativity up another couple of notches. For instance, once he placed two twenty pence pieces on a page and drew bodies on the paper under them to make it look like they were attached to the heads on the coins. He has an interesting view of the world, that's for sure!

Well those are just three people on Instagram that inspire me creatively and I really recommend you check them out! There are lots more cool creatives out there and so many different ways to be creative too. Now I want you to get involved in the comments below and tell me who your favourite creative people are!

Who inspires you to be creative?

I don't know about you but when there's hype around a beauty product, I usually tend to wait until that's subsided then think about trying it. Serozinc has been hailed as a 'skin saviour' for so long now and the praise doesn't seem to be fading. Always looking for new additions to my routine, I decided to give it a try and today I'll be sharing my review!

Serozinc by La Roche-Posay review
A little bit of background info about my skin to preface this review would probably be handy! I have combination skin so some parts of my face get oily while other parts have dryness to deal with. I feel lucky to have never had to deal with big problematic breakouts (so far anyway, touch wood) but I do often get a few small spots appearing here and there which, needless to say, are never welcome. I do my best to prevent them but sometimes they're just inevitable and there began my hunt to find something that would help get rid!

I ordered Serozinc, my first dabble into the brand La Roche-Posay almost two months ago when it was on offer on Feel Unique. It usually costs £8.50 which I initially thought was a wee bit steep. How wrong I was. Having discovered the effects I now consider it to be absolutely justified. I seriously hope they don't ever bump up the price due to it's popularity! Anyway, onto what it actually does.

SO HOW DOES IT WORK?

It's a simple solution of water, zinc sulfate and sodium chloride. Yup, salt. You spray the toner on and it works to both fight/fix blemishes while also soaking up excess oil and let me tell you, it shrinks spots like nobody's business. No faffing around, it just gets to work. Obviously it doesn't make spots disappear instantaneously (wouldn't that be lovely) but I've found that using this twice a day when I'm dealing with spots means it halves the amount of days I usually have to put up with them!

Serozinc by La Roche-Posay review
The nozzle itself is also pretty good at it's job - it dispenses an evefine mist when sprayed from a distance. If your skin is just outright oily then I'm sure you'd benefit from spritzing it all over but because of my skin's dry tendencies I prefer to concentrate the spray on where I get oiliest & spots regularly pop up. Sometimes I'll direct it straight onto my face, sometimes I'll spray some on a cotton pad and apply it that way so I can get at specific places. What I'm trying to say is that you can work with it even if you do have dry patches!

Serozinc by La Roche-Posay review
WHAT DON'T I LIKE ABOUT IT?

To be honest, not much apart from the fact it can be drying. I think the bottle is a good size and it's great value for money. Will I repurchase? Most definitely!

So those are my thoughts on the ever-hyped Serozinc. Go ahead and get involved in the comments if you have any questions about it! I'd also love to know if you have any other La Roche-Posay product recommendations!

Have you tried this?

I'm excited to be sharing my first ever book review with you today! It's of one I read recently called 'The Difference A Day Makes' by Carole Matthews. Here's what I thought of it!

'The Difference A Day Makes' by Carole Matthews review
I mentioned in my January Favourites that I've recently rekindled my love of reading and this is the book that's responsible! My mum got it years ago and seeing as it was just sitting in the house, I thought I may as well pick it up and give it a go.

SO WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

Married couple William & Amy Ashurst are workaholics & devout Londoners. When Will suffers a stress-induced health scare, they decide to up sticks and move to the Yorkshire countryside. Well, rather Will decides and Amy doesn't voice her protests. Suddenly the pair and their children are living out Will's newfound dream of 'idyllic' country life - farm animals and all - but when something disastrous happens, Amy is left to make a huge decision. To stay in the place the rest of her family had now grown to love or could she go back to London and attempt to live her old life again?

MY THOUGHTS?

It took me quite a while to get into this book at the beginning. I found Amy as the protagonist to be quite irritating as she never spoke up for herself and just stood by as her husband called all the shots, trying to be 'the good wife'. I know we all have to bite our tongues at times but for the first lot of chapters I struggled to get past her lack of integrity.

Then, the something disastrous happened and it took me by complete surprise. Obviously I don't want to spoil it for you but after that, the dynamic was flipped on it's head and I was completely drawn in to the story. The addition of an extra main character, Guy Burton the local vet, made things very interesting and that's when I realised I was starting to get more & more attached to the characters. A real sense of suspense was building as to how Amy would move on from the shocking event that occurred. Although as the reader, it soon became blindingly obvious what she should do and it was then a waiting game as to when she would catch on and figure it out! She was learning to learn the countryside and everything that came with it, she just hadn't realised it herself yet as she was still so fixated on how 'wonderful' her life back in London used to be.

'The Difference A Day Makes' by Carole Matthews review
"Perhaps if I'd protested more vociferously, I wouldn't be here at all."

I couldn't help but take note of this quote. Eventually (!) she realised that if she'd told William how she felt about the move, she probably wouldn't be in such a mess.

Despite the far fetched nature of many parts of it (the dog they adopt gets up to some ludicrous naughtiness), despite the fact it took a while for it to grow on me (I don't think I'd be friends with Amy but that's okay) and despite the fact some details are now outdated (it was written in 2009 and the reference to Bebo made me laugh), I bloody enjoyed reading The Difference A Day Makes. I even got a bit emotional near the end. If it sounds like your cup of tea and you fancy something light but thought-provoking to read, I'd even recommend it!

'The Difference A Day Makes' by Carole Matthews review

So there you have it, my thoughts on 'The Difference A Day Makes'! Get involved in the comments and let me know if you've read this or anything similar - I'd love your recommendations!

Would you read this book?
