Hello everyone!

May has been a month of exams and study leave for me. It saw me put up my Art exhibition, do my French conversation exam and sit my Media Studies written exam. Fairly hectic. I have enjoyed some relaxation time since those, as the only exams I have left are my French written exams on 19th June. I've found my passion for blogging again and hope it continues throughout the Summer and onwards! As the month is coming to a close I thought I'd talk through some of my favourite things during May.

Note: It's a bit of a long post so I've titled each section, that way you can read only the parts you're interested in, if you prefer.

BEAUTY:
In terms of beauty this month I've been keeping my makeup light and simple. I've preferred blending my L'Oreal True Match foundation with my fingers rather than a brush and at the end of the month I discovered it's great if mixed with moisturiser. I don't usually change my blusher but in May I tried to switch it up and opted for this Helen E one. It's in the shade and if I remember correctly when I bought it the lady at the counter said it was their most popular shade. It's a lovely subtle peachy/rosy shade which I find to be matte with the teeniest bit of shimmer thrown in for good measure.

The Soap and Glory loofa in the photo is meant to signify that I've been loving baths recently! They may seem like a more Wintery pastime but on my days off I can't get enough of them. I adore Lush's Mmmelting Marshallow Moment to make baths luxuriously creamy and The Comforter for bubbles.

FASHION:
The dainty daisy necklace pictured above is from River Island and isn't it cute? My sister bought it for me when she came home for Easter and I've been wearing it ever since as it goes with every outfit.

We have actually managed to get a bit of Sun here so my Firmoo sunglasses have come in handy! I gave a little review of them here if you'd like to know more.

Another review I wrote was on my new phonecase. It's rainbow coloured so brilliant for the months we're coming into!

MUSIC:

I listen to Radio 1 pretty much daily and May saw them hold their Big Weekend in Glasgow. While I didn't get to go myself, I'd been eagerly listening to them counting down to the event for ages and watched most of the coverage they put on TV. Highlights for me include The 1975, Jake Bugg and Ed Sheeran's performances. I've seen Ed live myself and he is truly amazing. Infact I'd really like to see him again in October as it really is worth going twice. I listened to Bastille a lot in the run up to my exams - I really recommend their album if you want something new to listen to. Lorde's album was on repeat as well this month.

BOOKS:
When it comes to books, I have to admit I don't read as much as I'd like to. I'm notorious for stopping a book midway, even if I love it. In a bid to read more, I'm trying to follow more book blogs and I've picked up my favourite book "The Time Traveler's Wife" again. The film version is amongst my favourites too and if you love that then you'll love this even more. When I first read this I was actually in hospital getting my appendix out - nearly a year ago! Isn't it funny how re-reading books can bring you back to memories?

FOOD/DRINK:
I'm not a fan of the original Lucozade at all but I do find the variations they do to be delicious. Pink Lemonade is by far my favourite. It might be sad that I know this, but last year when they first came out they were limited edition, but they sold so well that Lucozade were forced to make them permanent. I read this in a business newspaper on my break in work a while ago - the more you know!

PLACES:
Seeing as it's exam season, I've mainly been at school/home so nowhere exciting. I have however liked being able to stay in my bed a little longer most mornings.

APPS:
the speech bubbles dictate my thoughts when I play the game

On my phone I've been hooked to playing 2048. I'm not a big 'phone game' player but this is seriously addictive. I recommend this (with caution) if you need a boredom buster or if you want to feel more mathsy. It deals with numbers but there's no tricky sums or anything like that, just swiping alike numbers to make them double. The aim is to get to a 2048 tile. It's like numbers-domino-chess. One thing that bugs me is how it's pretty much impossible to win! I guess that's what keeps me coming back to it though because I'm determined I will!

TV:

I've been glued to Corrie this month. I get way too emotionally invested in Coronation Street and I'm loving how this 'Tina' storyline is panning out. It's all very dramatic. With every episode that passes I can't contain my excitement until the next - who's watching tomorrow nights?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mia, my cat has a favourite this month.
As the weather has been (gradually) improving and she's been itching to get her little paws out of the house, we've been letting her roam outside for the first time since we got her. She absolutely loves her wee adventures although it makes me feel like an emotional mother waving her child off to uni every time she goes!

Do you have any similar favourites to me?
I'd love to know what you've been loving in May! If you have a post on yours, feel free to link it in the comments below and I'll have a nosey.

Here's to a wonderful June!

Thanks for reading,

I must confess. I'm addicted to . . . lip products.

___________________________________

Hello everyone!

Ok so the above statement is a lie - I wouldn't say I'm a lip product addict of any sort but I do own and enjoy a fair amount of lippies if I'm being honest.

You've no doubt seen plenty of this tag on blogs and Youtube recently as it was created by the lovely Amelia Liana and Essiebutton. There's no harm in me adding my two cents to the mix and possibly elongating your wishlist even further now is there?

Hello everyone!

My phone has been looking a little bit naked since I got it last December and there are basically two reasons for this; I've found it quite hard to find cases for the Samsung S3 Mini and of the one's available, I just haven't loved the designs.

Hello everyone!

I'd umming and ahhing about setting up a Facebook page for this little blog now today I just thought, yeah, why not? I think it'll be another great way for interacting with you, my lovely readers, as pretty much everyone and they're gran has a profile now!

I know that different people prefer different methods of social media following so I thought I'd do a little round up post of all the ways you can follow and keep up to date with Thrift O'Clock. Especially as I'll be posting more regularly once my exams are over.

--------------

So here are the various places you can find me:

Hello everyone!

How often do you sit back and look at something you've worked hard for and completed, and just thought for a minute, "I'm proud of that." ? If you're anything like me, it'll be once in a blue moon.

For some reason in today's society we find it increasingly hard to pat ourselves and others on the back for our achievements. This is not to be confused with bragging or vanity or anything like that, what I mean is appreciating dedication and positively commending yourself or another. I think it's healthy to be proud of yourself every now and then.

So I've decided to create a little blog series doing just that.
My aim is to look out for the little things that I'm proud of in myself, friends and fellow bloggers and document them in a post every Sunday.
I'm not the worlds most self-loving person so I can't promise there will always be plenty of proud moments of my own but I'll try.

Also, if you know of someone you're proud of, whether it's just a little thing or something big, tweet me @ThriftOClock and use the hashtag #ProudMoments, telling me about that someone and what they've done to be proud of. I'll pick some and include them in a post. Don't hesitate to nominate yourself either!

--------------------------

1.

This week I've had a couple of proud moments of my own. The first being my AS Level French Speaking exam. I talked about it in my last post but it was basically a nerve-racking presentation and conversation in French. It was at 11:50am and the whole morning before it my tummy was in knots. It did however go quite well and it was the biggest weight off my shoulders to have it done now.

2.

Last week I finished all my Media Studies coursework, and for my evaluation I had to film myself talking. I found out that my dad has a tripod so I set up my filming place and I felt like a Youtuber! I put a lot of effort into filming and editing it and my teacher said it paid off as it was really well done. While filming that, I also filmed a 'Get Ready With Me' video, just to get a flavour of what Youtubing would be like and I really enjoyed it. I was quite surprised at how confident I was talking in front of the camera, basically to myself. Let me know if you'd like me to start making Youtube videos as I'd definitely be up for that!

3.

Also on the topic of Media Studies, I got an essay back that my teacher marked and I did pretty well. It was on synergy and convergence in the music industry, and something that really interests me so I tried really hard, putting lots of my own opinions and experiences into it.

4.

Yesterday I put a post up which featured a collaboration with a brand who'd contacted me to offer me a voucher if I wrote a post with their product in it. Thank you Laura from Firmoo for being my first PR experience. I'm also super happy with how the photos turned out.

5.

I'm never one to take pictures of my art and show them on the internet but this one I'm really proud of. It's for my AS Level Art and I was quite shocked at how little time it took me, only about 2-3 hours. During the Summer I'm going to paint way more, I love using acrylics.

-----------------------

So those are my proud moments for the week. Feeling proud of myself is quite an alien feeling for me, but definitely a good one. I don't see this as boasting as really, these are only tiny things. Please spread the love and nominate yourself or a friend (making sure you get their permission first). If you don't have Twitter or would prefer to send me an email, feel free at maeve.thriftoclock@hotmail.co.uk

Thank you very much for reading,
do go ahead and share some of your proud moments of the week in the comments!

Hello everyone!

As we get into the warmer months, that means two things. The first being exams (for myself and other students alike) but also some lovely sunshine to brighten up the scene. Here in the UK where it's mostly cold and/or rainy, the Sun does occasionally like to pop out around this time of the year!

I had my first AS Level on Thursday which was a French Speaking exam. I was crazily nervous as it involved reciting a memorised 3 minute presentation then answering unseen questions for about 10 minutes afterwards. All with an external examiner. All in French. I'm sure you can understand why it was quite a challenge but luckily the examiner was lovely and I'm quite happy with how it went. It was such a relief to get it over and done with but I'm nowhere near finished exam season yet!

I have to put my Art display up this Wednesday, which will involve some serious cramming from now til then, and on Friday I have my written Media Studies exam on the topics of TV Drama and the Music Industry. Wish me luck! Then I have a big gap of time until my last exam on the 19th June which is my French Listening, Reading and Writing.
After that I'll be free!

---------

After my French Speaking exam, the weather was absolutely glorious and the timing of my parcel from Firmoo arriving couldn't have been better! I got home to find a package from China for me, in which was a beautiful pair of sunnies.

So I thought I'd compile a few things together to show you my Summer Loves and Essentials for the upcoming months!

Lip Balm:

This is definitely a must for Summer. No one wants dry lips and a balm with SPF is even better. I really like the Maybelline Baby Lips for a subtle pop of colour, especially Pink Punch. If you want a more moisturising effect rather than colour, opt for Hydrate - I'm never without it these days.

Nail Polish:

I'm always a fan of colour on my nails and when it comes into the Summer that means no school, and no rules to tell me I can't wear some polish! This Spring/Summer is all about pastels and neons so don't be afraid to go for an all out burst of colour. I love the Miss Sporty polishes as the formula is fantastic, they're so opaque while still being affordable.

Candles:

Now you may be thinking, "Maeve, aren't candles more of a Winter thing?" but for me, candles are an all year round staple. Switch up the scents and go for something fruity. I can't wait to burn this Mango Peach Salsa votive once my exams are over!

Fashion:

Unfortunately, those Christmas jumpers will have to be put to the back of the wardrobe for now as it's officially short sleeve weather! It's also a great time to embrace a good skirt, dress or playsuit but of course, shorts are always a winner for me, especially as it can still be a bit windy here. You can always try the current-popular skort if you want the best of both worlds. (*bursts in full on Miley Cyrus karaoke mode*)

Sunglasses:

Sunnies are an essential for protecting your eyes from the Sun's rays while still being a fab way to jazz up your look. Even better if they're prescription. Firmoo contacted me and asked me to browse their sunglasses range and see if anything caught my attention and this pair did. What's more is they offered me a voucher to help go towards the cost! I fell in love with this pair and the timing couldn't be better as I'd just been to the opticians the day before I got their email so I knew my accurate prescription.

And here they are, the gorgeous pair I bought, the #FS1008 as Firmoo are calling them. They cost $49 (about £30) and shipping to the UK was $18.75 (about £11) so not bad at all if you take into consideration how much a pair might cost if you take a trip to your local opticians. Firmoo deliver all over the world so take a look and see if you could have a pair delivered to you!

You can choose the colour of the lenses and I went for moderate brown which I really love as I don't own any this colour and you can still see out of them very well as they're not pitch black. They have plastic black rims and gold coloured legs so look super classy and stylish with any outfit.

I have a fairly low prescription but I wear ordinary glasses for distance, seeing the board in school, TV, laptop and that sort of thing. Also, when I start driving I would legally have to wear them so I'm really glad I have a pair with corrective and darker lenses.

This is everything you get with your glasses!
This was a surprise for me as I thought it would be just the pair you were getting, but you also get: a hard case, a soft case, a cleaning cloth and a double ended screwdriver for tightening. Now if that's not value for money then I don't know what is.

They took 12 days to be delivered which is quite long but they were coming from China, and it was quite exciting not knowing exactly when they would arrive.

The cases are both gorgeous and handy, but for me the hard case won't close properly and neither will the soft drawstring one. Not sure if that's just mine. I wasn't even expecting to get these items so I'm not that bothered but watch out for that if it matters to you.

If you like this pair or any of the others in their range, you're in luck!
Firmoo were also kind enough to give me another voucher code to give to you guys, my lovely readers!

Have a look here, pick a pair and use the code "7642e14101" at the checkout and you'll get $30 off the price. This offer ends on the 30th May so act fast.
You're welcome!

Do let me know in the comments which pair you'd like to use that voucher on.

Of course another Summer essential is suncream/sunblock - don't forget it! I didn't include it as we should all know to be using it anyway!

Thanks for reading,
Maeve
